Between work-life balance struggles, treating animals, burnouts, and all the admin of running a clinic, it can be quite challenging to keep your team motivated. At the same time, studies show that managers and employees rank motivated teams as the top factor that significantly contributes to a company’s success, which is why this should be a prime focus for leaders.

VetFamily has worked alongside independent vet clinics for over 20 years and knows the needs, the opportunities, and the struggles to develop a clinic with long-term profitability and a motivated team. With these insights, our combined skills, and best practices, VetFamily in Denmark is launching a new HR program called “Team and well-being”, generating immediate support and improvement for both employees and clinic owners.

VetFamily supports all the way with concrete insights and easy-to-use tools

The program, which involves everyone in the clinic, consists of personal assessment tools, individual-specific profile reports on needs and motivations, satisfaction surveys, 1:1 coaching, group workshops, and hands-on handbooks. The blended learning experience, together with the continuous support from a dedicated VetBusiness manager, will make sure you see progress and concrete results within your team. It will help everyone understand both themselves and each other better, and with that, increased understanding improves internal communication and feedback to each other.

Experience from Sallingvej Dyreklinik

At Sallingvej Dyreklinik, Louise Mulvad decided to focus more on HR in her clinic together with VetFamily's Anja Mikkelsen and VetBusiness. An active choice she has not regretted, as that has resulted in a better working environment among her staff.

"All employees did a personal assessment. A session with VetFamily then followed each test to understand better individual strengths, needs, and motivation in everyday work life. Reviewing each other's test results on a more general level and VetFamily led to a greater understanding and respect within the staff group. No one was right or wrong; we just approached tasks differently. With this knowledge and some work, we have become better at communicating and working together in everyday life," says Louise.

In addition to the greater respect within the staff group, At Sallingvej Dyreklinik, each employee has gained greater insight into themselves and what drives them professionally and what makes them happy. This has contributed to a better and more efficient everyday life in the clinic, making it easier for Louise as a manager.

"This enabled me to define visions, work tasks, and strategic changes better" says Louise.

Why are motivated employees important?

Working strategically with HR to increase employee engagement and motivation has many benefits on top of a better workplace and culture in general. Examples of a few of the benefits are:
  • Increased productivity - engaged employees experience (up to around 3x) higher productivity levels than not because they are actively prioritizing their work rather than putting tasks off due to lack of motivation.
  • Higher level of work output - because they are focused and inspired, motivated employees produce high-quality work that successfully meets or even exceeds customer and employer expectations.
  • Stay longer - Engaged employees tend to be happier and more satisfied with their work environment, making them stay longer at their workplace (up to 50% reduction in attrition compared to a non-engaged employee). A motivated team also attracts new colleagues to a better extent.
